The Wichita Area Chapter of Legal Administrators was formed in 1981. In February 1987, Wichita became the first chapter in Kansas to receive Charter Affiliation with the International Association of Legal Administrators. Since its inception in 1971, ALA has grown to over 10,000 members and is represented by all fifty states and 30 countries.

WALA received Platinum President’s Awards of Excellence in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012, the Gold Award of Excellence in 2008 and the Silver Award of Excellence in 2011. This award recognizes chapters for their efforts in effective chapter management, communications, professional development, recruitment and retention, and other miscellaneous chapter activities.
